Three teenaged girls were yesterday selected as the winners of the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) early savers competition.
Zoya Peters, 13; Allesha Ally, 14; and Mandy Jaggernauth, 12; were rewarded at a simple presentation ceremony held at the bank’s Water Street office.
In his opening remarks, Head of Research and Planning, Sean Noel, said Guyanese must avoid the inculcation of a living-for-now syndrome in young people.
Noel said that parents must take saving more seriously and impart the value of financial responsibility. Read the rest of this entry »

The Guyana Cricket Board will run off two female Inter-County cricket competitions this year. In addition to the senior tournament, an Under-19 competition will be played for the first time.
The U-19 segment gets started today, while the seniors will bowl off on Wednesday 23 and all matches will be played in Demerara.
Both competition will be played using the 40-over format and will see the teams opposing each other once. At the end of the competition, the team with the most points or better run rate (if more than one team finish with the same points) will be declared the winner.
The GCB will sponsor the U-19 competition, while according to the GCB Corporate sponsorship for the senior tournament is presently being finalized by the board.
Demerara and Essequibo will square off in the inaugural U-19 game today at the Police sports club ground Eve Leary. Read the rest of this entry »
