Guyana Chronicle – January 3, 2008

THE Women’s Progressive Organisation (WPO), an arm of the governing People’s Progressive Party (PPP), yesterday admitted that there are still many negative attitudes to women by male players in the society.

Consequently, in its New Year message to all Guyanese, it called for renewed efforts to help minimise them.

The WPO reflected on 2007 and its achievements and noted, with concern, the violent murders that have taken place, especially those relating to spousal and domestic abuse.

Noting the Government initiative, through the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security ‘Stamp it out’ campaign, WPO pointed out that its recently concluded 15th Triennial Congress acknowledged the many positives in Guyana and resolved to also support all those working for the good of the country.

The message also encouraged all Guyanese to join hands in overcoming 2008 challenges.
