– Police seeking to clarify mother’s story

Kaieteur News – March 25, 2008

The search for Tenisha Morgan, the girlfriend of Guyana’s most wanted man, Rondell ‘Fineman’ Rawlins, appears to have lost steam a mere two months after she mysteriously disappeared.

Since the teen’s last reported contact with her mother, more than a month ago, there has been no word on her whereabouts although the Joint Services had launched aerial and land searches following news that she might be holed up in a remote area with her newborn baby girl.  At that time, she had reported that she was without food and that her baby was sick.

But investigators are now turning their attention to the missing teen’s mother, Waple Morgan, who had reported the contact with her daughter, prompting the Joint Services’ search.

A senior Police official told this newspaper that there is ‘something fishy’ about the whole issue.

He said that while the Police have been vigorously investigating the missing person report, there is evidence to suggest that the teenager and her relatives are withholding the truth about the matter.

He explained that since Morgan had reportedly contacted her mother, there was no apparent anxiety when she was not located after several days of searching, taking into consideration her state of affairs at the time.

“A few days after contacting her mother and telling her that she was without food and her baby was sick, Tenisha Morgan’s relatives were not that anxious to find her, as with the case of missing persons. The family has not come back to the Police with any other update,” the senior official reasoned.

Tenisha Morgan, of Buxton, East Coast Demerara, who was in an advanced state of pregnancy, disappeared on January 18 while on her way to the hospital.

Since her disappearance, the Police have received phone calls from a person purporting to be ‘Fineman’ Rawlins. They contended that the caller accused the Police of not doing enough to locate the mother of his child. Since the girl’s disappearance, Police Headquarters, Eve Leary came under attack on January 25.

This was followed, a few hours later, by the brutal slaying of 11 persons, including five children, at Lusignan, for which a man claiming to be Rawlins has claimed responsibility.

Following that incident, the person purporting to be Rawlins threatened further mayhem if Morgan was not found. Police say they have not completely given up the search, but will be seeking Morgan’s mother to clarify certain aspects of her story. Another senior Police official had told this newspaper in a previous interview that Morgan’s relatives know the real truth about her whereabouts.

There were suggestions that Morgan, who had left her home with a substantial amount of cash and her passport, may have voluntarily left the jurisdiction.
